Product Review: All-natural, delicious and "no nasties" cooking sauce!
Using store bought cooking sauces save you a heap of time in the kitchen, and this one I found by Mina is EXCELLENT!
Unfortunately, not all cooking sauces are made equal. Most of them, including tomato based ones, have ingredients that you may not really want to eat. Read on to find out why I recommend Mina's cooking sauce and what to look out for in other sauces.
A beautiful label isn't everything
I love great labels and packaging so this is what stood out for me initially. And a lot of people are just like me and think, "...I like the label, looks good, sounds good, must be good for me..."
Unfortunately, it's just marketing!
What really matters is inside the jar and just because it looks good, doesn't mean it is!
Luckily, Mina's is good on the inside as well!

What to look out for in other sauces
Canola/Vegetable Oil - You will see highly processed oils including canola, soy, corn, vegetable and palm oils in many packaged and processed foods. These oils undergo high heat processing, bleaching and deodorising to make them "fit" for human consumption. Not sure we need a lot of these in our food!! Look for Extra Virgin Olive Oil (not olive oil blend) and Unrefined Coconut Oil to use in your cooking & dressings.
Added Sugar - Refined sugar is fairly cheap, over-processed, highly addictive and has no nutritional value. It's added to the majority of processed foods and can cause unnecessary cravings and over-eating which does not benefit a healthy lifestyle.
If you want to make something a bit sweeter, try adding some raw organic honey or 100% pure maple syrup to it. This way you can control the sweetness and the nutrients. Alternatively, you could try a natural sweetener such as Stevia.
Gluten, Soy, Dairy - if you have ever suffered from bloating, gas, headaches or allergic reactions after eating food, then you may also know that these are some of the main causes!
Gluten, found in wheat, can damage the gut lining and lead to poor digestion and inflammation. This in turn affects the body's ability to absorb nutrients, vitamins & minerals from the food we eat.
Soy has been a little controversial over the years as to its health benefits, mainly due to many soy products being genetically modified. Look for GMO Soy if you choose to eat it.
Dairy contains lactose, whey & casein, which some people have a problem digesting. Whey & casein are the protein components of dairy and need a protein enzyme (protease) to digests them. Lactose is the carbohydrate component and is broken down (digested) by the enzyme lactase. Interestingly, the body naturally produces enough lactase when we are babies and infants to cope with digesting dairy and milk. However lactase production naturally declines as we are weened and move into childhood! Some people adapt and continue to digest lactose well, while others do not! That's what makes us unique and also why lactose-free products exist and lactase digestive enzymes are available as a supplement.
Artificial Colours & Flavours - more chemicals equals more digestive issues and inflammation in the body! No thanks!!
